Like many within 'Generation X', my first glimpse of a DeLorean was in Back to the Future (BTTF) - what an awesome movie and the beginning of my obsession of a beautiful example of Americana.

When BTTF premiered I was 11 years old and was only beginning to appreciate cars. Throughout my childhood my father and I spent a lot of time back home in San Diego at car shows, car museums, junk yards, you name it. Our common interest seemed to always be in orphans and cars with some intriguing history.

Fast forward to 2005 - I moved to Arizona in 1999 and in 2005 began to pay more attention to DeLoreans on the internet, i.e. eBay, Auto Trader, etc. I then stumbled upon the Arizona DeLorean Club's (AZ-D) Yahoo website and befriended Bob Patz and Johnny Sawyer, whom I owe a great deal of thanks for their guidance and support in my quest for a DeLorean.

I posted a few messages on AZ-D Yahoo regarding my interest in buying a DeLorean and thankfully Jay Bastani answered. Jay was a member of the Arizona DeLorean Club and the original owner of 5586. Jay took incredible care of the car, which only had 7,470 original miles. I purchased the car from Jay on November 4, 2005.

5586 is an October '81 build with automatic transmission and gray interior. Jay originally purchased the car from Casa Ford in El Paso, Texas. According to dmcnews.com, the car is one of 94 originally sold in Texas. The car is completely stock with exception to some recommended improvements, including Lockzilla, 'Rob-zilla' and an upgraded coolant overflow bottle. My goal is to continue to restore and refine the car to appear as it did the day it was driven off the transport ship from Northern Ireland.

I look forward to continuing to be involved with such a fine group as the Arizona DeLorean Club. I've never had so much fun!
