Matthew P. Olans

Greetings. As you know from the link, my name is Matthew P. Olans. I've been into cars ever since I could read. Once I had mastered all the Dr. Seuss and Disney books, my Uncle gave me the manual to his 1967 Volkswagen Beetle. I was 4 years old. We read it cover to cover so much that I could tell him the order of assembly of the 4-speed gearbox if he asked....:) In 1979 I received my first subscription to Motor Trend and that was it. I was hooked.
I can remember seeing early DeLorean prototype pictures and reading all about it. I was lucky enough to see my first one in 1983 at a golf course. From then on I knew I had to have one. Back to the Future came out and that only strengthened my desire to own one of my top ten cars. The other two BTTF movies followed shortly thereafter. I was lucky enough to see all three on the big screen.
In 1996 I bought the first car from my top ten list, a 1984 Porsche 944. I rescued it from a guy who was racing it, poorly. I did the body work, interior, engine, and had it painted. It was my daily driver until 2002 when I decided to slow the mile accumulation down on it and save it for fun. The Arizona summer takes a toll on older cars not used to the extreme heat and I would like this one to stick around for a few years.
I met Evil Dan while I was still living in New Jersey. (I didn't move out to AZ until the summer of 2001.) Dan had a DeLorean and once I had ridden in it I knew I had to have one. I knew I had to fulfill my dream. I decided to look for a car that was running and driving, had a decent interior, and was cheap. The plan was for Dan and me to restore it on our time off. We worked at the same place so it was going to be easy. Well, I bought VIN 10365 in the summer of 2000. Shortly thereafter, Evil Dan was let go and I left the position within the above company. Neither one of us had time to work on the car, so I sent it up to P.J. Grady DeLorean in NY. I knew I was in for a wait so I decided to look for a good example of a DeLorean in the mean time to have with which I could have fun. Incidentally, in December of 2003 I sold VIN 10365 to an AZ-D club member. It's still on the road today and it has been stripped of the white paint.
I found VIN 16816 on eBay in the spring of 2001...
