As most 30 somethings, I saw my first Delorean in BTTF on the big screen back in July 1985 and I was instantaneously hooked.  High school and college occupied my time for nearly the next 9 years.   After graduation I began to look seriously for a Delorean in and around my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio.   Fast-forward a few years and the purchase of a first home and getting married put that search on hold.    Temporarily that is....

So in December 2003 my wife and I moved to the Valley of the Sun.   New beginning, new city, new house, somewhat of a new job, but always that lingering dream that someday I would own a Delorean.   Sometime in early 2004 I was driving to Home Depot and almost wrecked when I saw 4 Deloreans "in the wild".   I immediately called my wife and said I was going to follow them.   She said I better not because being new to the valley I may get lost.   I regained my composure, pulled off the median, and to Home Depot I went (forgetting the reason I was going there in the first place).

My wife, Melanie, always knew and respected my dream about owning a Delorean.   She knew it was impractical and that the money could be spent on other things, but supported me nonetheless.   I needed this support when I told her about a guy I had been talking to named James Espey and a little company in Houston, Texas called Delorean Motor Company.   I convinced her that buying a "pre-owned" car from them would be reliable and a smart investment since it would be professionally inspected and serviced.

The day was Monday, May 16th 2005.   I called James Espey and told him I was ready to buy.   He said that they currently had two pre-owned cars, both 81's I think.   One of them was vin1510 which was a black, 5 speed with a gas flap hood.  We made the agreement and the deal was done.   But I then spent the next three weeks adding "new" things to the car.   When Melanie and I attended Houston's open house in June, James suggested that we might as well spend a little more and get one of their refurbished cars.   It's a good thing my wife was there to see what a refurebished Delorean looked like.   Once again, I got the green light!   What an awesome wife I have.

DMC Houston would then chronicle the build of our Delorean on the DMCHelp forums for all to see and is even featured in a 2006 issue of Delorean's Magazine.   When the car was finally ready in early December, James drove it from Houston to Phoenix just in time for the AZ-D's holiday party.   Needless to say, it was a very exciting moment indeed and I'm honored to have been able to share the first viewing of our Delorean with the wonderful members of the Arizona Delorean Club.

My wife and I are the proud owners of #1510 and intend to play an active role in the local and national Delorean community for years to come.

PS - Thanks again honey for all the support :-)
